Anthropic opens a research preview of Claude Duet

A waitlist app for US Pro and Max users where Claude Opus 5.5 sends a morning brief, keeps working on its own computer, and asks before it sends, pays, signs, or deletes.

Anthropic's 21 October 2026 post opens a research preview of Claude Duet, a standalone app on iOS, Android, and claude.ai. Anthropic says it is built around Claude Opus 5.5. For this preview it is included in Pro and Max plans in the US, on a waitlist, and it shares those plans' usage limits. Background checks count toward the limits. Larger jobs use more of them because they take more model turns.

Each morning it sends a short brief from connected apps. Through the day it checks those accounts every few hours and messages when something needs attention. You can hand it scheduling, dashboards, forecasts, prototypes, and web apps. It runs on a virtual machine with its own browser, so the work continues after you close the laptop or phone. Anthropic says it reads, drafts, and prepares on its own, then shows the step and waits before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything. Trading securities and moving money between accounts stay off-limits even with approval. It carries over memory, skills, and connected apps from the Claude account, and it can use the more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace, including Gmail, Slack, QuickBooks, Stripe, Gusto, HubSpot, Docusign, Canva, and Shopify.

Anthropic says Duet never directly sees passwords or sign-in tokens. A separate classifier is meant to reject requests to share credit card numbers and government identification. Health and personal-finance details go out only when you have explicitly told it to send them. The post says this early version can misread a thread or misjudge what is urgent, that personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker, and that it cannot yet show its browser. It lives in its own app, separate from the main Claude app. Purchases can go through Link, Stripe's wallet: Duet confirms the item, Link asks for approval of the spend, and payment uses a virtual card. Shop Pay is also available. A richer Shopify editor, and sign-in with saved 1Password logins, are described as coming soon.

Who it's for: a US Claude Pro or Max subscriber who wants a work agent that starts the morning brief and keeps going after they step away.

Fits: Best for Writing stays Claude, for a draft you open on purpose. Best Agent Builder stays n8n. Duet is a personal work agent in its own app, separate from the workflow a teammate operates. The verdicts are unchanged.
