Copilot assisted permissions are generally available

GitHub says Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, and VS Code can auto-approve requests a model calls clearly safe.

GitHub's changelog for 26 October 2026 says assisted permissions are generally available in GitHub Copilot CLI, the GitHub Copilot app, and Visual Studio Code. When Copilot asks to run a command, access a file system path, or open a URL, a large language model evaluates the request. Requests classified as clearly safe proceed on their own. Other requests still need approval.

In Copilot CLI, run /permissions and select assisted. In the Copilot app, open the mode picker, click Tool permissions, and select Assisted. In Visual Studio Code, open the permissions picker and select Assisted permissions.

Enterprise admins can block Allow All and keep Assisted available, or disable Assisted on its own. They can also set the default permission mode for new sessions. A developer can still pick another mode the policy allows. If the default is unavailable or prohibited, the session starts with manual approval.

Who it's for: someone using Copilot CLI, the Copilot app, or VS Code who wants clearly safe tool requests to proceed without a prompt, and enterprise admins setting that policy.

Fits: Best for Vibe Coding. Copilot stays fourth. Assisted permissions change when a request waits for a click. They do not change the edit loop that keeps Cursor first. The verdict is unchanged.
