GPT-6 Pro in ChatGPT can run agents in parallel
The Pro chat tab is faster, uses plugins and tools more readily, and can split a task across agents you can watch. The rollout is for eligible Pro users.

OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes for 20 October 2026 update GPT-6 Pro in the chat tab. OpenAI lists three changes: faster responses, better use of plugins and tools, and multiple agents that work on different parts of a task at the same time. You follow them in the conversation and open a finished task to see what that agent did.
The update is rolling out to eligible Pro users. In a managed workspace, availability depends on workspace settings and rollout eligibility. The notes describe the chat tab. They do not say the models behind Codex changed.
Who it's for: a ChatGPT Pro user who wants one chat to fan a job out and show each piece as it finishes.
Fits: Best for Writing stays Claude, and ChatGPT stays the generalist at rank 2. Best for Vibe Coding stays Cursor. Codex is still the cloud coding agent. This chat-tab update does not change those verdicts.
