How we rank

Ranked By Task ranks tools by the job, not by one score that is supposed to cover every job. There are 9 tasks and 40 tools on those lists. Both numbers are counted from the lists, and the date on a ranking is the date that list last changed.

Each list is an editorial opinion. The number is the rank. The sentence under a tool is the verdict for that job. We do not rescore a list because a newer model launched, unless the verdict on that list changes.

A Featured badge is paid placement. It is labelled and shown first. It does not change the rank number. Sponsored boxes elsewhere on a page are labelled too, and they are not part of the ranking.

A price label is "Free", "Free tier", or "From $X/mo". It appears only when that figure is stored on the tool, with the vendor page it came from and the date that page was checked. If we do not have a price, the card shows nothing. We do not estimate one.
