Claude Managed Agents can write their own workflows

A beta lets a managed agent split a large job into phases, run many agents, and combine the results in the background.

Official source (opens in a new tab)

The Claude Platform release notes for 9 October 2026 say a Claude Managed Agents agent can use dynamic workflows, in beta with the managed-agents-2026-04-01 header. For a job with many pieces, such as reviewing hundreds of documents, the agent can write a workflow: a program that runs many agents in phases and combines their results. The server runs that in the background. You turn it on by setting the agent's multiagent field to {"type": "multiagent_20261001", "workflows": {"type": "enabled"}}, and you tell it in the system prompt when to start a run. Progress shows up as workflow_run.* events.

Who it's for: developers already using Claude Managed Agents on large, repetitive jobs.

Fits: Best Agent Builder.
