The Gemini app can generate, preview, and edit PDFs, Docs, Sheets, slides, and code in the chat. PDFs work on mobile. The other formats are web-only.

Google's post on 29 October 2026 says the Gemini app can generate, preview, and edit documents, PDFs, presentations, spreadsheets, code, and more inside the chat. You can expand a file to full screen and type, highlight text to ask a question, or have Gemini refine the file. Google's example is a PDF study guide made from uploaded handwritten lecture notes, then edited in the chat.

PDF preview and editing work on the web and on mobile. Google Docs, Google Sheets, slide decks, Markdown files, TXT files, and code are supported on the web only. Google says the capabilities are available to all users, in every language where the Gemini app is available.

Who it's for: someone who wants a PDF, a doc, a sheet, or a slide drafted in Gemini and revised without leaving the chat.

Fits: Best for Writing stays Claude for a long draft. Gemini stays third, for a draft next to Gmail and Docs. Editing the file in the chat is that same job. The Gemini start guide, the Gemini alternatives, and the writing guide are unchanged. The verdict is unchanged.
