OpenAI opens GPT-6 Rosalind to approved research teams

GPT-6 Rosalind Research is a limited life-sciences model in Work, Codex, and the API. It is not in the Chat tab, and Enterprise access starts off.

OpenAI's API changelog for 30 October 2026 says it released GPT-6 Rosalind for biological reasoning and scientific tool use. Access is limited to organizations approved for Rosalind Research through the trusted-access program. The model id on the API is gpt-6-rosalind.

OpenAI's model release notes say GPT-6 Rosalind Research is rolling out to a limited set of approved Research customers in Work, Codex, and the API. It is not available in the Chat tab. Discovery approval does not grant Research access. Customers can keep using GPT-5.5 Rosalind Research, and Rosalind Discovery stays on 5.5. In Enterprise workspaces the model starts in a two-week Admin Preview and is off by default. Admins can turn it on for approved Research users and set what happens after the preview. OpenAI's life-sciences help page says buying a subscription does not grant access, API use is for approved internal research tools rather than customer-facing products, and the Rosalind Academic Plan does not include API access. This page does not print a price. OpenAI points that to its rate cards.

Who it's for: an approved research organization that already has Rosalind Research access and wants the GPT-6 version in Work, Codex, or the API.

Fits: Best for Writing stays Claude for a draft a person reads. ChatGPT stays the generalist on that list. Rosalind is a gated research model, not the chat product. The ChatGPT alternatives and the writing guide are unchanged. The verdicts are unchanged.
