Runway ships Dev plugins for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor

Runway's post on 2 November 2026 says it launched Runway Dev plugins for Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. One install connects the coding agent to a Runway Dev account through the Runway Dev MCP and adds Runway's skills for building with the API. You describe a feature, such as a product video for every item in a store, and the agent builds it without leaving the editor.

The plugin starts by reading the account: the projects available, the models each project can use with their prices and limits, and the credit balance. Runway says the skills show the agent how to build with the official SDKs and which Runway Dev tool fits the job. The agent can create a Model Router that picks a model for each request, or a Character for real-time avatars. For common jobs it can build on Recipes, or on Workflows the team has published as API endpoints in the Runway app. When a task fails, the agent can look up the error and see why a Model Router picked a given model.

You sign in with a Runway Dev account the first time the agent uses the plugin. Runway says no API key is stored in the plugin. Claude Code installs it with /plugin install runway-api@claude-plugins-official. Codex adds the marketplace with codex plugin marketplace add runwayml/skills, then codex plugin add runway-api@runway-dev, or installs from the plugin directory in ChatGPT and Codex. In Cursor, type /add-plugin runway-api in Agent chat, or install from the Cursor Marketplace.

Who it's for: someone who already directs Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor and wants that agent to build against a Runway Dev account.

Fits: Best for Video stays Runway for camera control, inpainting, and a workflow that resembles editing. A plugin that calls the API does not lengthen a clip or settle consistency. The video guide and Runway alternatives are unchanged. Best for Vibe Coding stays Cursor. The verdicts are unchanged.
