Descript vs Cleanvoice

Descript and Cleanvoice meet in the same search when a podcast is messy and the person searching has not decided whether the problem is the story or the mess inside a take. They are not substitutes. One is an editor you drive by changing a document. The other is a cleanup that can hand a timeline back to a different editor. On Best for Podcast Editing the order is Descript, then Riverside, then Auphonic, then Cleanvoice. This page is Descript against Cleanvoice. Riverside stays the tool for a session you have not recorded yet. Auphonic stays the loudness pass after the story is locked.
The verdict: open Descript (opens in a new tab) when the episode should be edited by editing the transcript. Open Cleanvoice (opens in a new tab) when another editor has to see the cuts. Descript has a free plan recorded here. No price is recorded for Cleanvoice. This guide does not quote the allowances. Read Descript's pricing page (opens in a new tab) for the current numbers. Cleanvoice's homepage offers a try without a card. That is not stored as a free plan.
The edit-versus-loudness cut is Descript vs Auphonic. The recording-versus-edit comparison is Descript vs Riverside. Loudness against this cleanup is Auphonic vs Cleanvoice. The page that starts from Cleanvoice is Cleanvoice vs Descript. See also Cleanvoice alternatives. The page that starts from Descript is Descript alternatives. The four-tool walk is Best AI podcast editor.
Descript, when you are still deciding what stays
Descript is first. The tagline is a text-based editor for podcasts and video. Podcasting, on its site, is multitrack audio editing that behaves like editing text. Transcription is automatic. You delete a word and the audio under that word goes with it. Studio Sound is described as AI background-noise removal and voice enhancement in one click. Remove Filler Words sits in the same family of tools. You can also record, make clips, add captions, and treat the project as video. The rank is not "best noise reduction." The rank is the edit. If the conversation is long, repetitive, or in the wrong order, a cleanup timeline will not fix it. You need to cut.
Descript is a video editor that happens to be excellent at a podcast. Do not ignore the transcript. That is the interface the rank is about. A pure audio desk is not what you opened.
Descript's site is descript.com (opens in a new tab). A free plan is recorded. This guide does not reprint the media minutes. Leave it when you are no longer choosing sentences. A take whose remaining problem is filler words, long pauses, background noise, mouth sounds, and breaths, and whose cuts have to be visible in another editor, is not a document problem. That is Cleanvoice. Running the episode through another round of deleting sentences will not hand that other editor a cleanup timeline.
Cleanvoice, when the mess has to travel
Cleanvoice is fourth. The tagline is cleanup for filler words, noise, and mouth sounds. Open it for the mess inside a take: filler words, long pauses, background noise, mouth sounds, and breaths. A cleaned file can come back as a timeline you finish in another editor. It is a cleanup pass, not where you rebuild the episode. It overlaps Auphonic's cleanup and does not replace Descript's document. It does not replace a loudness target or a transcript edit.
That list is a handoff. It is not a way to move the guest's answer to the top of the episode because the cold open was weak. Cleanvoice can take the mess out of a take. It is not where you decide the take was inside a story you no longer want. The verdict says it is not where you rebuild the episode. Hold it to that.
Cleanvoice's site is cleanvoice.ai (opens in a new tab). No price is recorded. The homepage offers a try without a card. That is not stored as a free plan. Do not read the homepage offer as the free-plan label Descript has on this site. This guide does not invent a minute count for either tool.
Use Cleanvoice when the story is already decided somewhere else and the other editor has to see the cuts. Use Descript when you can bear to read the episode and delete the parts you no longer want. A noise pass before you have decided the structure is work you may throw away.
What this pair is not
Riverside is second because the guests are still on the calendar: separate local tracks, a text-based editor, Magic Audio. If you do not have a file yet, you are not choosing between Descript and Cleanvoice. No price is recorded for Riverside. Auphonic is third. Noise and reverb reduction, a leveler, loudness targets, and cuts for filler words, coughs, and silence. It is the sound engineer after the story is already in order. A free tier is recorded from auphonic.com/pricing (opens in a new tab). Cleanvoice overlaps that cleanup and does not set the loudness target. The four rows are four sentences. This page is two of them.
Which sentence you are in
"I need to cut the interview by reading it" is Descript. "Hand me a timeline of the deletions" is Cleanvoice. "I have not recorded yet" is Riverside. "The cut is done and it still sounds like the room" is Auphonic. You should not ask one of them to be the other. The list is Best for Podcast Editing.

Questions people ask
- Should I use Descript or Cleanvoice?
- Descript is first on Best for Podcast Editing when the episode should be edited by editing the transcript. Cleanvoice is fourth when the mess is filler words, long pauses, background noise, mouth sounds, and breaths, and you want a timeline back in another editor.
- Can Cleanvoice replace a transcript editor?
- No. Cleanvoice is a cleanup pass, not where you rebuild the episode. Delete a word in Descript and that moment goes with it. Studio Sound and filler-word removal sit on that same timeline. Cleanvoice does not replace that document.
- Does either one have a free plan recorded here?
- Descript does, from its pricing page. No price is recorded for Cleanvoice. The homepage offers a try without a card. That is not stored as a free plan. This guide does not copy a minute count.
- What if the story is already locked and the file still sounds like the room?
- Auphonic is third, for noise, level, and loudness. Riverside is second, for a session you still have to record. Neither is this two-tool cut. Cleanvoice overlaps Auphonic's cleanup and does not replace Descript's document.
